First snow 2009... at Snow Lake of course : Snowshoeing on fresh snow to Snow Lake at Sno(w)qualmie pass... do I have a snow addiction?
Lisa, Marjan and I chose the quietness of a powdery backcountry hike over the crowded ski season openers on badly groomed, quickly tracked out runs.

Kendall catwalk and Ridge Lake : After the rain last week, I couldn't resist and hiked to Kendall catwalk. Also a opportunity to break in my new boots.
Went ~2 miles beyond to Ridge Lake, scouted great camp sites at the lake.

Camp Muir July 2009 : mid-summer hike to Camp Muir. I left my skis at the parking lot, even though the thought of skiing was tempting. Most of the snow was very cuppy, but Gerhard was brave enough to skin up with his skis and found a nice ~600ft that was worth carrying skies.

Dickerman Mountain : Summer hike to Dickerman Mountain (elev. 5723ft): countless switchbacks wind an increasingly weary hiker up for 4000+ ft altitude difference over 4.1 miles distance. If you're thinking "like Mt Si", you're almost right. But this trail does reward the tired hiker with wonderful peeks through the forest and even better vistas on the upper third.
Must come back later this year when the blueberry are all ripe, the top meadow is bursting with blueberry bushes...

Shakeout backpacking to Mt Pilchuck Lookout : First overnight trip for this season, time to search our moving boxes to scramble together all my gear. Picked Mt Pilchuck as first destination, forecast predicted several thunderstorms in the cascades, the lookout is a safe way to weather ligthing storms

Recon to Three Fingers Lookout : Siew Moi, Norm and I hiked up to Three Fingers Lookout on the 8/23-8/24 weekend to get a damage assessment of the lookout.
Took us 8 hours to hike up and 6 hours to hike out (the latter includes additional time for me to recover and climb out after I took a 100-150ft tumble down a steep ice field; nope, there are no blood and gore pictures of me :-), thank god)
