Recon to Three Fingers Lookout

Siew Moi, Norm and I hiked up to Three Fingers Lookout on the 8/23-8/24 weekend to get a damage assessment of the lookout.
Took us 8 hours to hike up and 6 hours to hike out (the latter includes additional time for me to recover and climb out after I took a 100-150ft tumble down a steep ice field; nope, there are no blood and gore pictures of me :-), thank god)

  • At Tin Can Gap, looking North to Mt Baker
  • Still at TCG, looking across the Queest-alb glacier below Three Fingers. Lookout is now clearly visible
  • Don't know this guy...
  • Look, we have to get *THERE*
  • Steep snow fields cover the actual trail, we cross some of the fields and climb around through some of its moats
  • another hiker climbing out of the moat onto the snowfield
  • Norm climbing the moat
  • and Siew Moi climbing the moat
  • crossing 2nd snow field
  • Untitled photo
  • Siew Moi "escaping" a moat
  • Look back to Mt Baker, now traversed 2 snow fields since TCG
  • And another ridge to walk around
  • descending into a vertical moat...
  • ... but half way through the moat we had to get back on the snow field to descend to next saddle
  • Untitled photo
  • we've rounded now most of the glacier basin, looking back to the snow fields we crossed so far
  • we're finally on the actual flanks of Three Fingers
  • Looking back to TCG (barely visible to the right) and our route so far.
  • Wonderful meadow of Blue Bells. We also see plenty of wool from Mountain Goats, but no goat so far
