1. Hiking

Recon to Three Fingers Lookout

Siew Moi, Norm and I hiked up to Three Fingers Lookout on the 8/23-8/24 weekend to get a damage assessment of the lookout.
Took us 8 hours to hike up and 6 hours to hike out (the latter includes additional time for me to recover and climb out after I took a 100-150ft tumble down a steep ice field; nope, there are no blood and gore pictures of me :-), thank god)

  • And here she is, the first sun rays finally reach our lookout
  • New day also on Mt Rainier
  • The fresh sunlight makes even the worn & weathered paint look almost new
  • hmmm, the next power plug is probably 10miles away....

  • after my tumble down the ice field, I made it back to TCG. Here I take a cautious look back to my slide path, right along the horizon. I'm glad the rockband below stopped my slide. Thank god, was able to hike out the remaining 7 miles from here to my truck on my own power. Plenty of bruises, some cuts from ice and crampons and a swollen knee are the only battle scars so far.
